Donal Skehan has offended the nation of Italy with his one pot pasta recipe

“You kill Italian pasta.”

YOU WANT TO try cooking your spaghetti a different way? Don’t. The Italians will smite you.

All went great this morning with @klgandhoda on the @todayshow! The @todayfood gave me my own mug for being a regular! Whoot! Instagram / donalskehan Instagram / donalskehan / donalskehan

Irish chef Donal Skehan learned this the hard way when he filmed a recipe for a simple one pot pasta dish, which garnered half a million views on YouTube.

It caught the attention of Italian people, who completely lost the rag at Donal cooking the pasta in cold water along with all the veg, instead of in a separate pot.

The comments on the video are a riot of Italians decrying the recipe, as well as others accusing him of ‘faking’ the shot where he twirls the spaghetti on to a fork.

My nonna is crying in pain.
A piece of Italy is lost each time this dish is made.
The god of pasta will punish you!
Watch carefully when he fork twirls the pasta, it’s obvious that the pasta he fork twirls has been halved, and the pasta he cooked was full strand. Better luck next time fakery.

Donal is taking it all in his stride, however, reading out the mean comments on his Snapchat (complete with dodgy Italian accent). He also says that the dish was never meant for pasta purists:

This is not a pasta recipe for Italians. This is a recipe for someone who doesn’t have time to cook, but still wants something delicious.

No, Donal. We must toil and suffer for our dinner. The Italians have decreed it so.
